Governor Malloy Signs Law to Bring Affordable Clean Energy to Connecticut

Governor Dannel P. Malloy today signed legislation that will implement the state’s first ever Comprehensive Energy Strategy. The new law, Public Act 13-303, will expand the benefits of affordable renewable energy for Connecticut electricity customers. In conjunction with the bill signing ceremony, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection issued, pursuant to Section 6 of the Act, a request for proposals for Class I renewable energy resources such as wind and solar in an amount up to four percent of the load distributed by Connecticut’s electric distribution companies. That’s 525 megawatts of wind-equivalent installed capacity. The Department intends to evaluate proposals on an expedited basis to maximize the likelihood that selected projects will be eligible for certain federal tax benefits, conferring an intended benefit to Connecticut consumers by lowering the cost of access to renewable supplies of electric power.
