Local Perspectives on Electric Infrastructure
RENEW Northeast (RENEW) is building a network of community leaders across New England who are interested in ensuring that local voices and interests are part of the growing dialogue around the development of our regional electric grid.
Why now?
For over 17 years, RENEW has been a key voice for responsible and reliable clean energy development. While we have seen significant progress over the past decade, our region faces growing challenges to meet our energy needs in an affordable, reliable, and environmentally sustainable manner. A major constraint in our ability to meet energy demand is an aging and inadequate electrical grid. New power lines, grid enhancements, storage and other innovations are needed, impacting communities across the region.
Who should be heard?
Too many of the conversations surrounding the future of our regional grid are happening mostly within state and federal agencies and amongst industry experts. Communities, neighborhoods, and other critical interests often feel unable to engage pro-actively in the policymaking process, and face information gaps that hinder their meaningful involvement. Too few conversations include real involvement of the local communities that will be most affected.

Building the Public Conversation.
RENEW is engaging individuals and community-based organizations to work together to understand and respond to energy infrastructure issues and opportunities.
Using our resources and knowledge, we are establishing a platform for dialog and exchange, providing information and tools for:
- The sharing of up-to-date and understandable information about transmission proposals and projects;
- The exchange of ideas and best practices for how communities can engage and develop beneficial agreements with energy developers; and
- Building strategies for amplifying community voices and perspectives to local,
state, and federal policy and regulatory decision makers.
