Federal Order Stopping Construction of Nearly Completed Revolution Wind Project Will Harm Consumers and Place Energy Jobs at Risk

RENEW offers its deep appreciation to Governors Lamont and McKee for holding events today with labor showing how the U.S. Department of Interior Order stopping construction of the Revolution Wind project is irresponsible now that it is 80 percent complete and will be a key source of reliable power needed to meet growing demand and keep New England energy costs affordable. Blocking new sources of energy from reaching the power grid undermines the goal of lowering energy prices.

Revolution Wind provides stable pricing that’s locked in for 20 years – and on-par with “baseload” energy sources. A newly released study by Daymark Energy Advisors for RENEW illustrates that if 3,500 megawatts of contracted offshore wind like Revolution Wind had been operational during the winter of 2024/25, New England consumers could have saved $400 million. The study comes on the heels of an ISO New England report  that highlighted a 67 percent increase in the price of energy in New England between 2024 and 2025 due to an unprecedented 112 percent rise in the price of natural gas – the primary resource generating the region’s electricity.

“At a time when New England consumers are asking for more affordable energy, the stop-work order places new sources of energy at risk,” said Francis Pullaro, President of RENEW Northeast. “For developers, it sends a signal not to invest in the United States and bring with it the economic development benefits of energy expansion.”
